Both tempered and laminated glass is safety glass, but they are used in different applications according to the safety standards or level.

Generally speaking, Laminated glass is safer than tempered glass, so laminated glass is used in areas where safety level is high, like glass wall, glass floor, glass bridge, glass railings, glass stairs, balcony glass and so on. Laminated glass can also block up to 90% UV light and have sound reduction properties. So, it is also used for window and doors for offices, museum and library and some other public facility. Of course, you can also use it in your home. Laminated glass is bis basically a glass sandwich, It is made of two or more plies of glass with a vinyl interlayer between each glass. The interlayer could be PVB,EVA or SGP. PVB is the most widely used interlayer for lamianted glass. There’re also different colors for interlayer, if you want your glass more decorative, you can choose colored interlayer.

For tempered glass or toughened glass, its best feature is great hardness and toughness. It would be the best replacement for common annealed glass. It is usually used for window, doors, shelf, table top, balustrade and so on. It works much longer than standard float glass and even in any case it breaks, it shatters in small pieces that are less likely to cause injury or damage than non-tempered glass. What’s more, these two kinds of glass can be combined-tempered laminated glass. Which is definitely better than each single type.

So for strength and breakage-resistance, temper glasses often is the first consideration. For flexibility, UV-resistance, security and sound considerations, laminated glass is often the product of choice. Both are considered safety glazing materials and can be obtained in a variety of thicknesses and colors or tints. Both are easy to clean and maintain when installed properly.
